As a coastal town, Oban might be known for its seafood, but for those looking to go for a meatless outing, the town has several great options to choose from across a range of cuisines, whether you’re visiting in Veganuary or any other time of year.
Join us as we look at some of the most popular spots for vegan eating to help you or the plant-based people in your life choose the perfect location for an evening in Oban.
Coast Restaurant
First on our list is Coast. Like many restaurants in Oban, Coast focuses primarily on local produce and seasonal ingredients.
Those looking for vegan food can enjoy starters and mains including soup of the day and sweet potato and sage gnocchi with balsamic roasted tofu and winter greens.

Situated in the town centre, the restaurant is ranked No.1 on Tripadvisor among all the restaurants in Oban and is popular with tourists and locals alike.
If you’re keen to try Coast, be sure to book in advance, as it can get busy!
The Lorne Bar
Moving on to our next location, the Lorne Bar, is a less-than-five-minute walk from the town’s promenade.
Offering several excellent options for vegans, plant-based patrons can enjoy vegan haggis bites for starters, a vegan burger of the day or Penang curry for the main.
While desserts can sometimes be few and far between for vegans, the Lorne Bar offers a vegan Sundae to ensure nobody misses out on a sweet treat to cap off their meal.
If you’re looking for an after-dinner aperitif, the bar also touts an extensive whisky and gin collection.
The restaurant is also child and dog-friendly, perfect for bringing the whole gang along!
Taj Mahal
If you or the vegan in your party are craving something spicier, Oban’s Taj Mahal Indian restaurant is a solid choice.
Well reviewed on TripAdvisor, the Taj Mahal, like many Indian restaurants, offers extensive options suitable for vegetarians that are, in many cases, suitable for vegans, too.
Patrons can enjoy classics such as saag aloo, aloo gobi, chana masala and tarka dall, as part of a warming, hearty meal.
The Taj Mahal also offers a takeaway/delivery service for when your adventures around the West Coast have left you preferring your own company!
Gelatoburger
Next stop, Gelatoburger. Offering a more casual dining experience just off the harbour promenade, Gelatoburger has a truly astonishing amount of choice, perfect for when everyone fancies something slightly different, including plant-based options.
With three to choose from, guests can enjoy options such as ‘The Rawtarian’ – a Moving Mountains B12 plant-based burger with vegan cheese, vegan bun, smashed avocado, tomatoes, onions and vegan mayo, as well as classics such as spicy bean burgers and falafel burgers.
GelatoBurger is also a great option for those with food allergies, with each dish marked clearly as to its potential allergenic contents.
Porcini at No17 on the Promenade
Finally, we come to our very own Porcini at No17. Open throughout the year and offering delicious seasonal menus, Porcini serves not just the very best in Italian cuisine but some delicious vegan options, not to mention a beautiful sea view from its outdoor terrace.
Vegan options include minestrone soup and tagliatelle Napoli from their lunch menu, while their a la carte menu offers a sensational rigatoni alla norma: rigatoni pasta with classic Sicilian aubergines, garlic, tomato, herbs and chilli.

If you like the sound of sea views, why not book a stay with us at our hotel? Perfect for families, couples retreats, or solo nights away – the No.17 on the Promenade is the perfect base of operations as you try all that Oban’s cuisine scene has to offer!
